🔹 The term ‘value’ refers to those objects, principles, or beliefs that human beings find desirable and worthy of pursuit in their thoughts, emotions, and behavior.
🔹 These may be material (like wealth or comfort) or abstract (like peace, love, or justice).
🔹 Values serve as ideals and guiding standards for individual and collective human action.

  • Reflect personal attitudes and judgments.
  • Influence choices, decisions, and behavior.

🔹 Value education refers to intentional educational practices that aim at developing the right values, attitudes, and emotional maturity in learners.
🔹 It is concerned with the transformation of personality, covering all three domains:

🧠 Knowing (Understanding right/wrong),

❤️ Feeling (Developing appropriate emotions),

Doing (Practicing values in actions).

🔸 Value education is:

  • Not the same as character training, though it includes it.
  • Not just social adjustment, but aims at shaping what ought to be.
  • Different from religious education, though religion may inspire values.
  • Aims to develop the ability to think morally, feel responsibly, and act ethically.
